Steve Calvin M.D. on pregnancy care, health care reform, and innovation

After more than 30 years of practice as an OB/GYN and Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist you might think that I would have this whole pregnancy care thing figured out.  You would be wrong.  Every day I learn something new and much of what I learn is confirmation that pregnancy is not a disease.  Unfortunately the current system always assumes problems and sometimes even causes them.

As a committed pregnancy care reform advocate I am constantly reading, networking, and thinking of better ways to provide care for mothers and babies.  Putting those thoughts into words is a valuable discipline. I will use this blog as a way to communicate those thoughts.  Let’s call it “Pregnant Pauses”.

I know that many of you also envision an improved pregnancy care system that provides satisfying, high quality care at a more reasonable price.  Pregnant Pauses will be a forum for us to interact.  I look forward to the conversation.
